Etching
My work concerns our relationship with landscape and our place in nature, ecologically, spiritually and emotionally. Recent etchings have been primarily influenced by Samuel Palmer; they explore modern landscapes in an antique style and are sometimes populated with figures using modern technology such as the Man on a Laptop series. This chosen etching takes Palmer's reading figure from The Valley Thick with Corn, turns his book on its side so that it becomes a laptop, and in the distance a windfarm and a power station nod to the current environmental issues on climate change.
I graduated in Visual Art from Aberystwyth University, specialising in painting and photography. I now primarily draw and paint using inks which are the basis for my editioned etchings and aquatints. I work in the British romantic tradition, and am particularly influenced by Neo-romantic artists of the 1940s and the Surrealist movement.
